There is no reason that diabetes should stop anyone from enjoying and benefiting from juicing, but it’s crucial to choose the right ingredients. Today we are sharing with you a recipe for a green juice that is a great choice for those wanting to prevent and manage diabetes. This green juice contains dandelion leaves, celery, and green apple, which are known for anti-inflammatory and blood pressure-lowering benefits. We hope you enjoy it!
Diabetes Quick Facts
Diabetics often shy away from fresh juices as they fear that they are too high in sugar and because of their non-healing wound that is just too bothersome. However, there are many amazing fruits, veggies and herbs that are hugely beneficial for managing diabetes. With the right approach juicing can be part of a diabetic’s daily routine, and help increase energy levels and even minimize symptoms associated with diabetes.
“Think about it: Heart disease and diabetes, which account for more deaths in the U.S. and worldwide than everything else combined, are completely preventable by making comprehensive lifestyle changes. Without drugs or surgery. “-Dean Ornish
The World Health Organization recently shared a shocking statistic: 347 million people worldwide have diabetes. That’s upsetting. And this number doesn’t even take into account the percent of the population that is prediabetic or doesn’t realize they have diabetes. Diabetes can have serious health complications including nerve, eye and kidney damage.
Types of Diabetes
As you might already know there are several types of diabetes: gestational, whereby a woman becomes diabetic during her pregnancy;
-
- Type 1 occurs both in children and adults due to an auto-immune disease destroying cells in the pancreas.
- Type 2 is the most common form, occurring in 90-95% of diabetic patients, including pediatric patients. Type 2 diabetes is related to insulin resistance, which means the pancreas is producing insulin but the body cells are no longer sensitive to it, so glucose levels in their blood stay high.
Good News
It’s important to understand that 93 percent of diabetes is caused by lifestyle choices – what we eat and how much we move plays a huge role in our health. This means that most diabetics can manage and even prevent diabetic damage through diet and exercise. People with prediabetes can stop it dead in its tracks and never develop the disease at all. If you currently live with diabetes or if you have been diagnosed as prediabetic don’t lose hope! Trust that nothing about type 2 diabetes is inevitable and that there are steps you can take to help your body heal itself and remove the causes leading to the symptoms of diabetes (especially type II).

Dedicated to your health & wellbeing,
Hi there, I just found out that I have something referred to as Diabetes 1.5?? Total news to me…curious how helpful anything will really be to be as my Dr. Told me similar to Type 1 this too is irreversible. gosh I would love to get a little bit of hope from somewhere…
Hello Shayna,
I am sorry to hear about our diagnosis. Please don’t lose hope, the body is incredibly powerful and if given the right environment (healthy diet, movement, nature, sunshine, silence and stillness) it can heal itself. Including a fresh cold pressed juice everyday is a very good place to begin. Diabetes is considered autoimmune disease therefor focusing your diet and lifestyle on reducing the inflammation in your body will be very helpful. Take an active role in your healing, trust yourself, trust nature. Sending love to you.
Hi Nikki. I’ve type 2 diabetes to and have just conceived, is the juice good gir me to be taken or could have a negative effect on the fetus
Congratulations on the birth of your baby! What an exciting time 🙂
Yes, you can include this juice, start slow – with 8oz serving (1/4 of the recipe)and go from there. Juices are a wonderful natural medicine and you will rarely encounter negative side effects.
32 oz for the day?
Hello Melissa,
You most definitely could drink it in one day or save 1/2 for the next day – but it’s best to drink juice fresh.
Hope that helps, let us know if you tried it and how you liked it?
Please recommand a good juicer that keeps most fiber.
We have been using Omega horizontal juicer for the past 4 years and love it.
Hello , I..appreciate your kindness and compassion..i love green juices however apples contain too much glucose and this is dangerous fot diabetes..A.sour apple eaten or blended is much safer and healthier. I hsve tested my blood sugar to prove this. I juice cucumbers and lemons or limes as fruit because they are low in sugar and follow with leafy greens and celery or ginger.
Thank you for this green juice recipe. I started today becuz I am a type 2 diabetic. I wanted to know if I can do a batch of this juice and put it in the fridge?
Hi Wendy,
Good for you for taking this step to better health. Juicing is an incredible way to support it, especially if you have type 2 diabetes.
As for your question – It’s best to drink juice fresh, however, we understand that is not always an option. We would suggest that only keeping it in the fridge for 2-3 days. The juice starts to oxidize and loses its nutrients. Another option for even more convenience, is freezing the juice right after making it. Then plan accordingly as per when to remove it from the freezer to allow enough time for the juice to thaw – anywhere between 6-12 hours roughly. Let us know if you have any other questions, and keep us posted on your journey. ✌️N&Z
Can this be done in a blender?
Hi Bri,
We get this question a lot – juices can be done in a blender, it just takes more time and thus patience 😉 Our suggestion would be to use all the ingredients listed, put in a blender, add purified water, blend and then strain through a cheesecloth or nut-milk bag. Discard the pulp and enjoy the juice!
A suggestion we have for most clients is that investing in a juicer is a game changer. Years ago when we started juicing we would just search local classifieds for used juicers. You would be surprised how many people buy them with great intentions and then don’t use them so you can often find ones in nearly new conditions.
Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you so much. I made it for my dad today since his blood sugar has been high.
Hi Norma, thanks for the comment, we hope your Dad enjoyed it 🙂
